So proud of my boy today. When I picked him up, the counselor told me that he is quite an inventor.
The glasses on the left was the assignment. The one on the right was his. He simplified the design and improved the look and mechanism or the hinges. His design looked and worked so much better!! Future #engineer?

Food adventure

Here I am, sitting in a new neighborhood I have not explored, and trying out a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. Brave? Not quite. With today’s social media and technology, you can pretty much find out almost everyone and everything without setting. The first step into the door. So what is the sense of adventure nowadays? We do not use our eyes, ears, smell and other senses to “scope out” places anymore. We just simply dip our heads down and look into our phone (in this case, Yelp for restaurant ratings). Is intuition a lost art?

Challenge to myself: next time, I am going to step into a restaurant without reading Yelp reviews. Simply, I am just going to look at the place, observe the patrons, and determine whether I will go in or not.

Thoughts about vegetarianism – again

Just subscribed to this Facebook page “Vegan Zeitgeist” (https://www.facebook.com/VeganZeitgeist). Some of the posts really hit home — not the animal cruelty part ( I already know that), but philosophically if someone eat animals, they are eating something that is already secondary in nutritional value. One of the quotes from the page, “Those who eat flesh are but eating grains and vegetables at second hand; for the animal receives from these things the nutrition that produces growth. The life that was in the grains and the vegetables passes into the eater. We receive it by eating the flesh of the animal. How much better to get it direct by eating the food that God provided for our use!” ~Ellen White, co-founder Seventh Day Adventists (vegetarians).”

Well, I hate to bring religion into the conversation since I am not religious, but what is said about consuming nutrition second-hand is so true. I am just convinced that if most people eat more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains (but not necessarily becoming vegetarians and vegans), this is world will be a MUCH better place.
